Now that it's started in California, it's going to spread eeverywhere else. Look out, everybody. From my reading, any heavy truck operating in California from 2008 on has to have a shutoff device on the engine that will turn it off after 5 minutes of idling. And all those APUs we've all been buying also have to have emission control edvices on them. I guess that's my biggest gripe, that companies are going to be punished for trying to do teh right thing and installing APUs.

The California law that goes into effect January 1, 2008 has limited effect on existing APUs.
The regulations clearly state that as of January 1, 2008, trucks built with 2007 emission compliant engines (anything produced after January 1, 2007) can only be equipped with APUs that meet the Tier IV off-road emission requirements, which are simialr to the same levels as the 2007 engines. Trucks produced before January 1, 2007 can still be equipped with APUs that do not meet the Tier IV regulations. So a 2006 model truck equipped with an APU will not have any problems with the new regulations after January 1, 2008. |

I heard about a company that sells a cooling and heating mattress pad for your cab. My understanding is that pad can get real cold....perfect for sleeping. I believe the unit only pulls 30 watts. Check it out

What are folksusing for APUs now that California has the new law? We're going to have to get up to speed quickly, and we're trying to figure out what is working best.
